We don’t publish a price list. The price depends on your site and on steel and material prices at the time, so we only quote after seeing the site (jobs start from 10,000 THB). The site survey is free

An awning looks like the simplest steel job there is: a frame, some roofing sheets, fixed to a wall. In practice, most awning complaints we hear about have nothing to do with the steel. They're about water getting in where the new roof meets the old wall. This page covers what drives awning prices in Krabi and the details a cheap quote tends to skip.

We have no price list. The price depends on your site and on material prices when we quote. Jobs start from 10,000 THB, with a free survey and a written quote. For the general approach, see how we price steel work in Krabi.

How Rong measures an awning

Rong measures the length along the wall and how far the awning projects. He checks the height of the fixing line and the ground, then works out a pitch that sheds rain properly in a Krabi downpour. He also looks at what the wall is made of, because that decides how the awning can be supported.

Three ways to support an awning

Fixed to the wall, no posts

Clean and uncluttered, but only suitable for shorter projections on a wall that can take the load. The fixings and frame have to be right, because there's nothing else holding it up.

With brackets

Angled brackets run from the wall to the frame. They let the awning reach further than a wall fixing alone, without posts on the ground.

With posts

Posts at the outer edge carry most of the weight. This suits long projections, weaker walls and larger covered areas, such as an outdoor kitchen or a terrace. Posts may need footings, which is a separate line on the quote.

Which one is right depends on the wall and the size you want, not on what's cheapest.

What moves the price

Projection and length

More roof means more steel and more sheets. Projection matters more than length, because a deeper awning needs heavier sections or extra support.

Height

A fixing line high up on a two-storey wall means scaffolding and slower, more careful work.

The join with the existing wall

This is where the money should go and where cheap quotes save it. A proper flashing detail costs more than a bead of sealant, and it's the difference between a dry terrace and a stain running down your wall.

Roofing material

Sheets differ in price, weight, heat and noise. Insulated sheets make the space below cooler, which matters on a west-facing wall.

Gutters

Without a gutter, water off the awning pours onto the ground right where people walk, and splashes back against the wall. In the rainy season that adds up. Read what to know about roof extensions in the rainy season.

Removing the old awning and site access

Taking down an old, leaking or rusted awning and clearing the debris is real work. So is carrying steel through a house or down a narrow path. Remote or boat-access areas such as Ko Lanta carry a travel fee, stated in the quote.

Leak points cheap quotes skip

  • No flashing line, or "sealant" as the only waterproofing at the wall
  • No pitch mentioned, so water sits on the roof and finds its way into laps and screws
  • Long projection with no brackets or posts, and no check of what the wall is made of
  • No gutter or downpipe, so water runs back towards the house
  • Steel sizes and rust protection not stated, which matters even more near the sea. See how salt air affects steel in Krabi
  • Removal of the old awning left out, then added once work has started

Questions to ask every builder

  1. How will the join to the wall be waterproofed?
  2. What pitch will the roof have?
  3. Is the wall strong enough, or do we need brackets or posts?
  4. Are gutters and downpipes included?
  5. What steel sizes and rust protection are in the price?
  6. What does the warranty cover?

Our warranty is 1 year, under the site conditions written in the quote.

An awning often grows into something bigger. If you want to cover a cooking area, see our kitchen extension service. For shade over a pool terrace, read pool deck shade for villas in Krabi. Resort and café owners may find roofing for resorts and cafés in Ko Lanta and Ao Nang useful.

Frequently asked questions

How much does an awning cost?

We don't publish a price list, because the projection, height, wall type and roofing all change the price, and material prices move over time. Jobs start from 10,000 THB. Send photos on LINE for a free survey and a written, itemised quote.

Why does my awning leak where it meets the wall?

Usually because the join relies on sealant alone, or the flashing was skipped. Sealant breaks down in sun and rain and needs redoing. A proper flashing detail at the wall is the part that keeps water out.

Can an awning be fixed to any wall?

No. A light block wall may not take the load of a long projection. Rong checks what the wall is made of at the survey and tells you if the awning needs brackets or posts instead.

I'm renting a villa. Can I still get an awning?

Yes, with the landlord's approval. It helps if the landlord or property manager is at the survey so the design and fixing points are agreed by everyone.
