Nuea Khlong borders Mueang Krabi and is a short drive from town. Many houses here are not on the beach like Ao Nang, but near canals, mangroves and brackish water. The salt arrives slowly. Rust does not appear overnight, but anything that stays damp fails first, above all the base of a post buried in soil or standing in a puddle. When a fairly new frame has rotten post feet, the cause is nearly always the same: the bottom of the post is wet most of the year.
The fix is simple. Raise the post base on a concrete plinth clear of the ground and slope the surrounding floor so water runs away. It costs a little more, but far less than cutting out and splicing new post sections a few years later.
Then think about real use. Carport and work-area posts get clipped by pickups and have heavy things leaned against them. Post size and spacing should allow for knocks, not only the weight of the roof. On a tight budget, spend it on the posts by the entrance first; inner posts can be lighter.
- Post bases should never be buried in soil or sit in water. Raise them on a plinth.
- Measure your pickup when loaded before setting the roof height.
- Wash-area floors must fall towards a drain, not towards the steel.
- If you will park and store things under one roof, tell us what you store so posts are not in the way.
- Near mangroves or brackish canals, check post bases and joints every year.
Getting there and booking a site survey
About 15–20 km from Krabi Town
Visits are easy to arrange, but photos on LINE speed things up: a wide shot of the yard, the ground where posts will go (soil or concrete), the vehicle you will park, and your subdistrict or a location pin. If the house is near a canal or an area that floods in the rains, mention it.
Ko Siboya is reached by boat, so moving steel and equipment works differently from the mainland. Tell us at first contact. Jobs on Ko Siboya carry a travel fee, stated clearly in the quotation before you agree. Mainland homes do not need to worry about this; any cost is always written into the quote.

Permits and permission
In Nuea Khlong district, each subdistrict comes under its own subdistrict municipality (thesaban tambon) or Subdistrict Administrative Organisation (OrBorTor). The risk is at the post base where it stays damp. Raising the base above ground and stopping water pooling makes a big difference, but you should still check the bases every year. Nothing makes it maintenance-free.
Do I have to strip the whole roof to replace a timber frame with steel?
