A single-skin metal sheet roof heats up quickly and radiates straight down. In open country the wind carries hot air away, but in a still hillside village it sits under the roof. The lower the roof, the hotter it feels underneath.
There are several levels of fix, from cheapest up. Raise the roof to put more distance between the sheet and people. Leave a high-level gap for hot air to escape, for instance at the junction with the existing house, or use a two-tier overlapping roof. And choose sheets with bonded insulation. The honest limit: none of these makes it as cool as a room with a ceiling. If that is the expectation, discuss it with Rong first.
The common mistake is sealing the new roof tight against the old eaves. Hot air has no exit and is pushed into the house through the windows. But once you open a vent, remember Khao Phanom gets heavy seasonal rain like any inland district. Every opening needs a hood or overhang against driving rain, so both problems must be designed together.

Permits and permission
In Khao Phanom district, ask the subdistrict municipality (thesaban tambon) or Subdistrict Administrative Organisation (OrBorTor) for your subdistrict about building or extension permits. Land near the hills or forest areas should have its status confirmed before building. At provincial level, contact the Krabi Provincial Public Works and Town Planning Office.
